Beauval Mayor & Council Monthly Meeting January 2024 - Part 2

The Beauval Mayor and Council meeting continued after an intermission. Mayor and council provided their monthly reports. 

Mayor Nick Daigneault began with his report. Saskahaw recreational-use cannibis store is in its final stages before opening. There are  some legal agreements to be finalized. The business loan for the project has been approved. 

Contributions and loans have been made by Beaver River, PLEDCO and NEFI.  

Mdeez confectionary will see new products and equipment additions in 2024. There is more room to offer more products since Canada Post moved their operation to another location in the community. 

The village owned apartments/suits have had basic inspections within the last few months. The units were purchased from a previous owner. There are some noted humidity issues (heat loss) to some of the units. There is plan to lease/rent the units once maintenance and repairs are completed to each unit. They are looking at short-term and long-term leasing. 

Beauval Recreation is in the process of aquiring a Chase The Act lotto licsence. The funds generated will go back into the community and help pay for recreation activites and facilities for the community of Beauval. 

Technician company out of Alberta has provided a quote to offer maintenance and training for the heating unit at the BDI building. It’s a large unit that needs to be maintained, as the current settings has some issues. The company provided a quote of $10,383.17 to offer these services. Motion was made to approve the quote. 

Denison Mines is looking into a interest fund/investment pool. The money generated will provide economic development and community development. This is similar to how PLEDCO generates funds, they both invest in communities in the north-west Saskatchewan area. 

The 2022 audit is still pending an enteral review with MNP. All information needed was forwarded to MNP, so they’ll finalize the audit. 

There is still some potential interest in purchasing Angler’s Resort, discussions are still on-going. It’s recognized as a good tourist location and a good investment opportunity. 

Meeting have taken place with the ministry of healthy regarding development of clinics in our area. There is some coordination and commitment needed to get projects completed. There is anticipation of the 2024 fire season. It’s recommended that Beauval develop an emergency command center to provide servicis during fire emergency. 

The councillors provided their reports. Some topics mentioned were the skating rink and food bank. The skating rink has to be moved to another location as it’s currently on land owened by the Metis Local. 

The safe home report was provided. They are currently at full compacity. There are also looking to fill a position. Maintenace report on vehicles was provided.
