Manitoba Islamic Association Holds Healthy Aging Lecture Series: First, Heart Health & Nutrition
With age, many people experience health challenges, including organic and psychological ones. As a person ages, it's crucial that people continue to educate themselves to avoid developing serious health problems that may be difficult to treat.
Manitoba's Islamic Association organized a series of health lectures at the Grand Mosque Hall in Winnipeg. The first lecture was held on January 21st. In this episode, Functional Nutritionist, Nina Ghazanfar spoke to a group about how to eat to prevent heart disease or to manage it if one is already suffering from health markers related to heart disease including high levels of triglycerides, cholesterol or high blood pressure.
Ghazanfar was chock full of up-to-date information that has supplanted some of the ideas taken to be still valid. For example, cholesterol levels once considered too high are no longer considered so. She also talked about nutrition with respect to diabetes and metabolic disease, both issues that have a direct bearing on the health of one's heart. Other topics she covered were inflammation, trans fats, intermittent fasting and what a healthy diet comprises.
There were plenty of questions from the audience. Ghanzafar gave very detailed answers to their questions.
The elderly in Winnipeg deserves a healthy life full of vitality and activity. This first lecture is certainly a good start to the lecture series being put on by the Manitoba Islamic Association being put on in Winnipeg this winter.
