The Nature Trust of New Brunswick Continues to Make Strides Protecting the Province's Wildlife

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick is one of the province's most proactive organizations when it comes to protecting New Brunswick's natural wonders. The Nature Trust of NB is a charitable land conservation organization founded in 1987, which focuses on conserving and stewarding private land and engaging New Brunswickers about the importance of protecting our province’s unique natural heritage and biodiversity.

"One of the founders was from Saint Andrews, so that's a local connection to Charlotte County. We now protect over 9,000 acres of ecologically significant land in more than 60 beautiful and diverse nature preserves throughout the province," said Jessie Davies, past president of the Nature Trust. "Protecting land in perpetuity feels pretty good.

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick has a mandate to protect unique natural areas in the province, some which shelter rare, endangered species of flora and fauna. It is the Nature Trust’s mission to steward these lands while maintaining healthy ecosystems, biodiversity and preserving native species.

"I am a stewardship technician, and the stewardship department at the Nature Trust deals with protecting our existing nature preserves, 16 of which are in Charlotte County," said Freya Clark. "I work with volunteers and stewards to protect the preserves we have."

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick partners with individuals, landowners, community groups, non-profit organizations, indigenous groups, businesses, and government departments at all levels to protect New Brunswick’s natural spaces. They establish nature preserves through land or donations, purchases, conservation easement agreements, other legal interests in land, and manage them in perpetuity.
