New names Added to Clarence-Rockland Cenotaph - Remembrance Day 2020
(français ci-dessous) To mark remembrance day in 2020 the local legion was able to make some changes to the proceedings.
New banners, with the names of the local soldiers who gave their lives in both WW1 and WW2 were unveiled and will be displayed every year along Laurier St. This new addition came just in time, giving the community an opportunity to embrace the ceremony of remembrance in their own time, which was unfortunately a vital element of this year's service due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On top of this, in 2019 Padre Robert Merritt put forward the idea of reading out the honor role at the start of the Remembrance Day proceedings, as is custom at many memorial ceremonies.
It was in this process that he noticed that no names from WW1 were on display on the Cenotaph. But, after some hard work from the community including a community minded volunteer, Denise Beaton, 5 names were found and added, to be remembered evermore.
