"We thought of doing this to celebrate over 400 years of rich history" Cain explains.
Nova Scotia's North Preston is Canada's largest black community that historically is the home of black people who have been in Canada for generations.
It is the place that spawns positive change for Blacks who have been and still are the subject of prejudice...including in policing, the justice system, black business and more. This is where relationships are cemented and activism spawned.
The parade attracts people from all over the Maritimes. It is the place where people can create and cement relationships for friendship and a better future.'
The celebration brings together locals and visitors alike, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of North Preston's heritage. From lively performances of traditional dances and captivating music to vibrant displays of local craftsmanship, the event is a true reflection of the community's vibrant spirit.
"Oh I love it, I love it! I love the vibe, the creativity...I just love this community gathering" Shelley Fashan, a community member says.
" It is getting larger and larger" says Miranda Cain who is one of the organisers
"It's international. Apart from people coming from all over Nova Scotia, Vancouver, we've got people coming from the United States" Added Vivian Cain.
As participants engage in the festivities, one can't help but feel the palpable sense of togetherness and belonging that permeates the air. The event serves not only as a celebration of culture but also as a reminder of the deep-seated community bonds that have stood the test of time.

"It's an amazing day for the kids, for families. It shows we are a united community" says Quentrel Provo, a community member.
