RPTV WEEKLY NEWS (EP99) Affordable Housing Units Open at 175 Oak St Amid Ongoing Housing Shortage
Toronto has unveiled 24 new affordable housing units at 175 Oak St. in Regent Park, offering a small but vital relief to residents grappling with the city's housing shortage. These one- and two-bedroom units, part of Toronto Community Housing Corporation's (TCHC) expansion, represent a step toward addressing the pressing need for affordable homes.

Applications for the units are now open and will close on December 13 at 11:59 p.m. Monthly rents are set at $1,366 for a one-bedroom and $1,594 for a two-bedroom, with income caps of $65,568 and $76,512, respectively. To ensure fairness, tenants will be selected through a random lottery system.
Toronto-Centre Councillor Chris Moise celebrated the new development, emphasizing its significance. "Every additional unit is progress," Moise stated, reaffirming the city's commitment to expanding affordable housing in Regent Park, a neighborhood undergoing extensive revitalization.
While these units bring hope, housing advocates warn they are just a drop in the bucket compared to the overwhelming demand across the city. Regent Park alone is set to see hundreds more units added in the coming years, signaling gradual but much-needed progress.
As Toronto battles an ongoing housing crisis, developments like these offer a glimpse of the city’s resolve to support its most vulnerable residents.
