The Sam Miriello Show: Black Girls Gather

Host Sam Miriello interviews Fabiola Ngamaleu Teumeni from Black Girls Gather, a bookclub for Black girls in Montreal to read books by Black authors and see Black representation within their novels. Black Girls Gather is hosted at West-Island Black Community Association (WIBCA) located in the West Island of Montreal. Black Girls Gather was founded by Fabiola Ngamaleu Teumeni and Mariame Touré.

The idea came to Ngamaleu Teumeni after not feeling represented within literature. This book club provides an opportunity for Black women feel connected within their community and discuss issues such as Black hair. Black Girls Gather operates by splitting the group by age, one group with girls aged 12 to 14 and another group with girls aged 15 to 18.

BGG is currently reading Americanah by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and invites the greater community of Montreal to keep updated with their social media to find book recommendations to read more Black authors and learn about the Black community.

BGG is currently seeking funding for their second year of operation, with a goal of $2,500 to meet their deadline in four months on June 30, 2021.
