Strait Talk Episode 1

The first episode of Telile Community Television’s new roundtable talk show, “Strait Talk” features an interview with members of the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, chair Derrick Cameron, volunteer Colleen Morgan, and vice chair Steven Anthony. In addition to marking National Hospice Palliative Care Week, which runs from May 5 to 11, the interview was conducted during the 30th anniversary of the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.

The show kicks off with an introduction of the members of the society, and is then followed by a brief overview and history of the community group provided by chair Derrick Cameron. Vice-chair Steven Anthony then gave an update on some of the activities the society hosts and organizes throughout the year.  To complete the introduction, volunteer Colleen Morgan talked about some of her experiences and the connections she made during her many years volunteering with palliative care patients, their friends, and families.

In addition to issuing a call for volunteers, vice chair Steven Anthony talked about new palliative care rooms which recently opened at the Strait-Richmond Hospital in Evanston, Richmond County.

Anthony detailed the well-attended fundraising events, the celebrations and awards for local healthcare professionals, and some of the society’s plans to mark its 30th anniversary.

After detailing what the group does and how it has been so generously and tirelessly supported by the community, chair Derrick Cameron, volunteer Colleen Morgan, and vice chair Steven Anthony looked into the future of the society, as well as palliative care in general.
