Winnipeg Summer Markets Revitalizes Local Economy

The summer of Winnipeg brings out the most beautiful local industries we usually can't see because of the cold winter. The local manufacturers and farmers look every summer to build networks with new clients to expand them to be part of the economic plan in the city. When these seeds grow, there will be opportunities for employment and development of the city for new industries.

One such market is the Dakota Summer Market, organized by Dakota Community Centre.  The next market day, and last of the season,  will be August 25th from 10 am - 2 pm. You can find the Dakota Community Centre at 1188 Dakota Street in Winnipeg.

This episode of "Civic Platform" features Brenda Bourns, Manager, Strategic partnerships Development Dakota Community Centre. Bourns tells us about Dakota Summer Market in detail, including the market's duration and operations and the agenda it offers its visitors. Bourns explained the importance of the market to Winnipeg and surrounding communities, especially to newcomers who find a great opportunity to learn about local Canadian industries and how newcomers can find inspiration to start their own business one day in Winnipeg.

"Civic Platform" interviewed some of the market participants who spoke about the importance of participation for them and how the market is an opportunity to meet customers directly and to explain their products personally, giving customers a way to participate in the production and development of their products.
