With Earth Day here and the residents of Wakefield preparing for spring and tourist season, the villagers are picking up a lot of trash.  This all started when Jennifer Kun went out for her typical walk that ended short with her dog badly slicing his foot on broken glass.  This prompted Jennifer to start picking up the trash in her neighbourhood.  She made a post to a local facebook page and this initiated many other locals to help with the trash clean up crusade.  Jennifer claims that a certain large coffee chain is winning in the trash content.  Now more than 25 people are taking to the streets and ditches with garbage bags. 

The village of Wakefield is a great tourist destination with the Gatineau Park, hills, rivers, biking and unique village shops.  Each summer the village becomes a busy tourist destination for the gem of a village that it is.  Last summer and this past winter the garbage bins were continually overflowing and residents are now needing help in keeping their village free of trash.  A suggestion is for the municipality to collect the trash bin garbage with more frequency.  The residents are feeling if the town is clean from trash before the tourists come, the tourists may be more likely to be motivated to keep the town free from their trash.  It is time for solutions to help maintain a litter free, butt free and overflowing trash can village.  Earth day is a great time to remind everyone to maintain a healthy clean environment.
