Meet the Candidates - Daniel Lapierre (Green Party)
For the final push ahead of the 2021 Federal Election, TVC22 brings you one-on-one interview with your local candidates in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.
In this interview, host Thomas Stockting sits down with Green Party candidate and engineer Mr. Daniel Lapierre as runs for the MP position in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell for the first time. Mr. Lapierre is campaigning on his belief that not enough is being done to move Canada towards a greener future fast enough, stating that projects such as the Colacem cement plant are taking the region in the wrong direction
Resident of l'Original, just west of Hawkesbury, the father of three spends most of his time running between his familial obligations, his work obligations and his volunteering as a local hockey coach - but never did he want to be a politician.
"We trained as scientists, we trained as engineers but never as politicians," he said speaking of those in the Green Party.
Focusing on ending poverty, reducing the disparity of wealth and tackling climate change would be his priorities, stating that working hand in hand with the agricultural industry & the creation of green public transportation must be a priority.
The Canadian Governments recent track record when it comes to climate change has come under scrutiny during this election, with Mr. Lapierre an open critic.
"I'm an engineer and when a customer comes to me and asks for something and I say I'll do it, I'll do it. If I don't I lose my job," he said. "The government promised to reduce green house gasses they didn't.
"Today I don't believe in them. I don't believe them even if they have a good promise and good publicity.
"We are going to do it because we believe in it, because it needs to be done."
