Schreiber Council Meeting October 2021 Pt 2
The second and last council meeting of October for the Township of Schreiber was a very brief event, last just under 25 minutes. The highlights follow below starting with the approval of the agenda.
- The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted and circulated.
- Council accepted a change order for the extra cost for drainage lines for the Splashpad project.
- Additional costs were approved for the sign foundation work to be done on the downtown branding sign posts.
- The final offer and acceptance for the propane costs for the year were approved.
Committee of the whole department reports.
- The Economic Development report regarding the A6 trail update concluded that the additional work to finalize the trail has been completed.
- Senior programme report shows a strong involvement with the senior centre and residents with the membership now sitting at 391. A few of the programmes are being reintroduced at reduced capacity such as indoor walking, floor curling and the quilting area to name a few.
- Schreiber fire department reports for August and September had been submitted. The first training courses outside of the Fire college occurred over the last 10 weeks in Schreiber. Purchases for some additional equipment was also approve to update some older gear at the fire hall.
Question Period showed no input.
Under Communications, there were a few articles that drew the attention of council.
The first one being the report on broadband resources accessibility.
The NOMA conference is being planned for Fort Francis awaiting final approval and lessening of COVID restrictions.
Revitalising the great lakes waterfront areas for recreation was discussed as per a request.
Unfinished business focussed on a formal agreement between the Schreiber public library and the township. For the last 4 years a request from the library to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the occupancy of the building and its use has been largely ignored. This was once again postponed until another meeting. One concern centres around the use of the basement area that currently houses the Schreiber Media Centre.
Other Business discussed attending the ROMA meeting in January of 2022 which will once again be a virtual event at this time.
