Regional Roundup: Greater Neepawa Area for October 2021
Starting in Rosedale, the RM has been looking to replace the secondary fire truck, which dates back to 1976, and as well has been looking into replacing some fire hydrants in the Kelwood area. The big story in that area is the abrupt closure of the Birnie Post Office. According to Canada Post, the redirection of mail to Neepawa is a temporary measure and they are looking at options to reopen mailboxes in the Birnie area.
In the Town of Carberry they’ll be installing a speed reader board on PR 351, which goes by a recently installed playground. They’re also holding a by-election on December 1st. Candidates have been posted to the town’s website as of this week. Carberry is also host to CurlManitoba’s 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which is actually held in December 2021, and are in the midst of working out the last of the details.
East to the Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone, they’re debating the recent temporary closure of the Langruth bulk water station, which affected many area farmers. They have also finally voted to enter into a development agreement with Topigs Norsvin Canada Inc. for the development of two intense livestock operations at the north end of the municipality. There has been intense debate over these operations for several months, and residents' concerns remain ongoing.
In the RM of Clanwilliam-Erickson, Council approved an RFP to resurface the runway, taxiway, and apron at the Erickson Airport, a necessary improvement for the safety of the facility.
In Minnedosa, Council approved the installation of several additional traffic control signs and stop signs in various locations around the town to increase public safety including around the campground and on mainstreet. Also in that area, the RM of Minto-Odanah is proceeding with a proposal to install a booster pump and booster station to supply the water reservoir, which is a significant project for the area.
And finally in the RM of Glenella-Lansdowne, Council is proceeding with the construction of a new municipal shop in the town of Arden, a $500k project. As we’ve seen elsewhere in the area, the municipality is also investing in fire prevention and preparing for the purchase of a new Fire Suppression Truck.
