After several months it was decided that Schreiber Media Centre would be trusted with archiving and posting future Terrace Bay council meetings. Initially the council had been discussing dropping the virtual portion of the meetings as the pandemic was subsiding but after a presentation by Kim Krause of the Schreiber Media Centre it was decided to keep the status quo and continue with a virtual version to compliment the in person meetings. The first meeting was not released due to technical issues and even this one still has a few bugs in it. A lot of the problem comes down to poor internet connectivity in our area which of course affects bandwidth and further tests will be conducted to try and improve the quality of the final product.

First item up was approving the minutes of previous meetings.

The second item up was a presentation by Chris Dube, a teacher at Lake Superior High School, regarding the upgrades and improvements to the outdoor arena, which can be multi-purposed as a rink in winter and playing field in the summer. High school students would be involved in the upgrades a s part of the trades classes in the school which include welding and woodworking. Council seemed to be supportive of the idea with the caveat that a committee would be responsible for the maintenance and repairs.

Next up was a preliminary report on attending the AMO conference in July. With provincial elections happening so close to the conference there was some concern that the new MPPS might not be prepared for any meetings that will be planned. Mayor Davis mentioned that this wasn’t a problem during the previous 2018 conference and a delegation would be organized and attend the conference in Ottawa. Tourism has been recognized as a priority for Terrace Bay and the improvements to the downtown and beach areas all contribute to promoting the area as a tourist destination.
The LNG project is also on the calendar and a meeting with the various municipalities involved might bring this item more attention.

Also discussed:

• Seniors housing and care is another big issue for most municipalities but Terrace Bay is hoping to upgrade the current facilities and will seek more funding from the seniors housing minister during the conference. EMS services are still not finalized and remains an issue in the area.
• Bear capture for the season is another important issue in our area and a new agreement with the bear trapping service was approved.
• Community development report focused on the 2022 ski season and even though the season was late starting, it continued on late into the winter months. Services had been restricted due to COVID and most problems were sorted and the trend seemed to be going in a positive direction.
• A water treatment report showed the need for quick response to maintenance issues regarding pump replacements.
• The Programme co-ordinator presented the need for increased housing and a proposal to have an independent real estate agent handle sales of existing town owned properties.
• With spring finally starting the Spring Clean Up programme was finalized with a discussion on what will be acceptable for pick up.
• A request was submitted from the organizers of the Thunder Bay Drag race group to use the existing drag strip at the airport but it may conflict with the Terrace Bay Schreiber car clubs plans for their own events. A decision will be made after more discussions. 

Next council meeting will be held on June 6th.
