Eastern Charlotte Waterways has been making waves pioneering the community program Project: Village that aims to revitalize rural southwest New Brunswick by bringing sustainable initiatives like affordable housing, indoor farming and electric car-sharing to the region. The non-profit group's latest project is transforming the old Freshmart in Blacks Harbour into a vibrant community space.

Plans for the outdoor gathering space are already underway and will include free wi-fi, picnic tables, accessible washrooms, electric vehicle charging stations and a mural representing the rich and tenacious history of the community by renowned local artist Geoff Slater.

Pride Month kicked off in a big way in Charlotte County this past weekend with a Summer Drag Show at KIRA Amphitheatre in St. Andrews featuring performances from famed New Brunswick drag performers Normani, Amore Love, Julia Jeffries and newcomer Anastasia as an intermission performance from St. Andrews own Lee Wells. The event was the first ever drag show at KIRA and a new addition to the local Pride Month line-up with a portion of the proceeds going to Charlotte County Pride.

Pride Month celebrations continue this Saturday, June 18, with Charlotte County Pride's annual Pride Walk taking place this year in St. George starting at the St. George Mall. 

Finally, Team New Brunswick competed in the Chess Nationals this past weekend. While the event was held virtually, team New Brunswick met in person at Anderson House in St. Andrews to play together as a team. Overall, Team NB tied for fifth place with a strong performance from Andreas Doemer representing Grade 3 for Team NB finishing second in Canada.
