There was a lot to cover at the last Terrace Bay council meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. First order of business was an item brought forward regarding the appointment of a compliance auditor for the upcoming fall elections. CAO John Hall outlined the requirements and as in the past CAOes from other townships will make up the panels while Mr Hall will be part of the compliance for other communities such as Schreiber , Marathon, etc. 

The next CAO report highlighted the sale of surplus properties. There is an offer on a lot in Terrace Bay and council must authorize the sale.
A presentation on Community Safety and Well Being (CSWB) followed by Investigative solutions Network. The cost of planning will be shared with Schreiber once the initial needed services are determined. The presentation made a clear case for a strong organization of Community Safety standards. This issue is also becoming more important due to demands from provincial regulations in creating safe communities. Social development in municipalities can aid in the lowering of crisis situations and various agencies such as police, social services, health care can take part in the initiative.

A discussion followed the presentation with one councillor noticing the omission of senior citizens but ISN assured him that they were included in the study but not in the presentation. Mayor Davis stressed that the program could only succeed if the community was willing to be involved. Small towns have limited or no access to funding for all social programs and needs to be a collective response. Mr. Hall then summarized the report and clarified the purpose of having a CSWB plan. Councillor Moore expressed his opposition to such a plan as he sees the concept as more of a solution for areas with bigger populations and is concerned that any added management of more organizations takes away from the limited resources of other committees. 

The treasurer's report focused on updating the tax ratios imposed on properties. Tax levies and increases are becoming more frequent in Terrace Bay and Schreiber as costs escalate with not much growth occurring to offset those costs in order to maintain services.

The fire department report highlighted the need for trained personnel and skills upgrading and requests that more funding be directed towards these efforts. It was agreed to support the need for training and the costs associated.

There were no questions for questions period and the meeting moved in camera for the duration.
