Pembina Active Living 55+ Improves Quality of Life for Older Adults

Older Adults in Winnipeg make up a large proportion of its population. The city is constantly keen to provide all the services they need to be comfortable and happy, not lonely and miserable. Older Adults are sensitive, and we should respect their privacy and appreciate their efforts to their communities when they were healthy and strong.

PAL (55+) Annual Picnic & Membership Drive gives the Older Adults in Winnipeg a space to go back to normal after the pandemic, organized by Pembina Active Living Centre (55+).

This "Civic Platform" episode features Susan Fletcher, Executive Director of Pembina Active Living +55. Fletcher tells us about the history of the Pembina Active Living Centre and its services to older adults. Fletcher says that the diversity of programs helps to integrate the elderly into society significantly and does not make them feel lonely. They face many challenges, and we must provide them with the necessary support to feel stable. Fletcher also spoke on the organization's role in opening opportunities for older adults to find jobs that suit their abilities and opening the way for volunteering to feel responsible again. Their mission hasn't ended, and they can provide more to the community.

Fletcher explained the difficulty of the current period for older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. So, the organization is working to create a safe environment for them to go out again without fear of the virus that is causing severe problems to older adults. Fletcher welcomed all the older adults, citizens, residents, and newcomers. The organization has a variety of programs that include everyone and asked them not to hesitate and communicate with her if they have any questions. So the organization can reach them and help them.

"Civic Platform" interviewed some participants who spoke about their role in helping the older adults in Winnipeg.
