Treaty Ten News recently interviewed Ann Lafleur who currently lives in Beauval, Saskatchewan. The main topic of discussion was her trip to Rome, Italy as she represented residential school survivors and had the opportunity to speak with Pope Francis. Ann herself is a residential school survivor that attended the Ile-a-la-Crosse boarding school. "The past has given us a lot of hurt, but now is the time to take hold of our issues and move on with our lives," she said. In speaking with Ann she gives a first-hand description of what it was like visiting Rome for the first time, as well as the emotions experienced in speaking with Pope Francis about her experience the residential school system. She also spoke about her opinions on todays youth and traditional medicine. She is an example of someone who took a negative and turned into a positive life, as well as the journey to forgiveness and moving on. 

Ann Lafleur is a respected elder in the community of Beauval, Saskatchewan; she has made everyone proud in the community for what she has accomplished. It was a honor to document and have a chance to speak with her. Her trip was as she described a experience she will never forget. We created this video as way to also create awareness, that even though the residential school system has created sadness and hard times; we still have the choice to move on in a positive light.
