Fort Francis Council Supports Rail Safety and Local Initiatives

Fort Francis, August 25, 2023 – The Fort Frances City Council convened in a recent session to discuss and make decisions on a range of important matters concerning the community. Several key topics were addressed, including showcasing the council's commitment to public safety, local businesses, and affordable housing initiatives.

One of the highlights of the session was the unanimous approval of the schedule for an upcoming Safety Awareness Week.

Continuing on the theme of community support, council addressed a letter from the Rainy River Future Development Corporation regarding the Buy Local Rainy River District campaign. Recognizing the importance of supporting local businesses and encouraging residents to shop locally, the council expressed its endorsement for the campaign's continuation.  No further discussion was noted, and the decision to support the campaign was again carried unanimously.

Another topic on the agenda was support for lobbying the federal government. Councilors discussed the request from the Sioux Lookout area to reinstate the northern allowance, and a resolution was passed to direct Administration to develop a resolution indicating the Council's support for this initiative.

In line with the commitment to community development, the council discussed a letter from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative. Acknowledging the significance of affordable housing initiatives, the council suggested directing Administration to explore opportunities for funding through this program to further the community's affordable housing goals. Following the discussion, the decision to explore funding opportunities through the program was carried unanimously.
