During the General Committee meeting on February 28, Barrie City Council decided not to proceed with a survey on fireworks restrictions.

The proposal was initially passed by the Finance and Responsible Governance Committee on February 7.  The committee moved the proposal to the General Committee of meeting of Council for final approval.

Ward 6 Councillor Nigussie Nigussie stated that the motion was a waste of time and money, as the aim was not clear.

Ward 7 Councillor Gary Harvey, a police officer, opposed the motion. He reiterated his remarks from the February 7 meeting, stating that restrictions are difficult to enforce, as evidenced by Brampton's unsuccessful ban on fireworks.

Ward 8 Councillor Jim Harris also opposed the motion. He questioned the effectiveness of the survey, asking what would happen if residents wanted to add more days for fireworks, suggesting it might lead to an expansion rather than a restriction of the list.

Councillors from Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 supported the motion, citing higher complaints in their wards due to a larger Indian population. However, six other councillors rejected the motion, effectively defeating it.

बैरी सिटी काउंसिल आतिशबाजी प्रतिबंध सर्वेक्षण नहीं करनेका निर्णय लिया।

8 फरवरी की जनरल कमिटी मीटिंग की बैठक में बैरी सिटी काउंसिल ने आतिशबाजी प्रतिबंध सर्वेक्षण के साथ आगे नहीं बढ़ने का निर्णय लिया।

7 फरवरी को वित्त समिति ने प्रस्ताव पारित किया। इस समिति से मामले जनरल कमिटी मीटिंग  समिति की बैठक में अंतिम अनुमोदन के लिए आते हैं जहाँ पूरी काउंसिल इस मुद्दे पर मतदान करती है।

वार्ड 6 के काउंसिलर निगुस्सी निगुस्सी ने कहा कि यह प्रस्ताव पैसे का अपव्यय है क्योंकि प्रस्ताव का उद्देश्य स्पष्ट नहीं है। उन्होंने इस प्रस्ताव के ख़िलाफ़ वोट दिया। 

वार्ड 7 के काउंसिलर गैरी हार्वि, जो कि एक पुलिस अधिकारी हैं, ने भी प्रस्ताव का विरोध किया। उन्होंने 7 फरवरी की बैठक से अपनी टिप्पणियों को दोहराया कि प्रतिबंधों को लागू करना मुश्किल है क्योंकि ब्रैम्पटन ने आतिशबाजी पर प्रतिबंध लगाया था लेकिन सफल नहीं हुआ।

वार्ड 8 के काउंसिलर जिम हैरिस ने भी प्रस्ताव का विरोध किया। उनका सवाल सर्वेक्षण से एक प्रश्न से जुड़ा था। उन्होंने पूछा कि अगर निवासी अधिक दिनोपर आतिशबाजी की अनुमति देना चाहेंगे तो क्या होगा। हम प्रतिबंध लगाने के बजाय आतिशबाजी का विस्तार करेंगे।

वार्ड 1, 2, 3 और 4 से काउंसिलर ने प्रस्ताव का समर्थन किया क्योंकि उनके वार्डों में अधिक भारतीय है और अधिक शिकायतें आती है! 

अन्य छह काउंसिलर ने प्रस्ताव को विरोध किया, जिससे यह विफल हो गया।
