At the same time, a change.org petition titled ‘Say No to Developing a Multi-use Sports Field and Parade Grounds at the South Shore and Allandale Park’ has gathered more than 1,200 signatures as of Sunday morning. The signatories argue that the development threatens the habitat of local wildlife and disrupts the peace enjoyed by residents who appreciate the quietness of woodland nature at night.

**Project Information:**
The relocation project aims to move the Sea Cadets from their current downtown location to the South Shore to improve safety and facility conditions. The project will also create a multi-use sports field designed for various community sports and activities such as soccer, lacrosse, and football.

Project Budget:
The total budget for this project is $4,620,777. Funding will come from three primary sources: 30% from Development Charges, 20% from the Tax Capital Reserve, and 50% from the Cash-in-Lieu of Parkland Reserve. This approach aims to minimize the financial burden on the city's budget and leverage existing resources to support community development.

Environmental Impact:
Environmental impact is a critical consideration. The project includes planting 1,000 trees around the waterfront, with a focus on the South Shore. Additionally, the city will work with the Conservation Authority and its terrestrial ecologist to ensure wildlife habitats are protected and any potential environmental impacts are managed. Councillor Gary Harvey of Ward 7 highlighted the safety improvements for the Sea Cadets and the community benefits of a multi-use sports field. Councillor Sergio Morales of Ward 9 stressed the need to invest in youth and community infrastructure to prevent social issues and enhance public safety. Councillor Amy Courser of Ward 4 supported the project while emphasizing the importance of maintaining community access and minimizing the commercialization of the waterfront area.
