Montreal Protest Calls Out Poilievre’s Policies, Urges Unity for a Fair Future
Around 20 to 30 people gathered at Mont-Royal metro station in Montreal on February 27 to protest Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, calling him out for scapegoating vulnerable communities while prioritizing corporate interests. Organizers warned that his policies threaten social services, democracy, and workers' rights.
“Pierre Poilievre is a menace to our healthcare system, to our education, he’s a menace to workers’ rights and he is a menace to our democracy,” one organizer said.
Protesters pointed to Poilievre’s attempts to blame migrants for the housing crisis, his party’s support for anti-trans rhetoric, and his backing of Israel’s military actions. They also criticized his association with billionaires like Elon Musk and Canadian tech elites, arguing that his real goal is to serve the ultra-rich at the expense of everyday people.
Organizers urged people to get the message out in their communities, warning that Poilievre’s leadership could be even more harmful than Stephen Harper’s. They stressed that his approach fuels division, turning people against each other while corporations and the wealthy gain more power.
“We have to go out, talk to people, and let them know who Pierre Poilievre really serves,” another protester said.
Many compared Poilievre’s approach to Donald Trump’s, accusing him of using fear and division to push an agenda that would cut essential services, harm marginalized communities, and worsen the climate crisis. Protesters emphasized that this is not just a political issue but a fight for fairness, justice, and a livable future. They called on people to organize, speak out, and resist policies that put profit over people.
