North Vancouver’s Iranian Canadian community came together this month for a special gathering that combined celebration and education. The event—organized by Kanoon Yaran Iranian in collaboration with Skyrise Media Society and Parvaz TV, and hosted by LJI journalist Sherry—recognized the contributions of local volunteers while also offering an important seminar on hearing health and accessibility.

The program opened with acknowledgments of the many volunteers who dedicate their time to cultural programs, senior activities, and social services. Certificates of appreciation were presented in recognition of their efforts, underscoring the vital role of volunteerism in building a connected and resilient community. “Our volunteers are the heart of our association,” organizers said. “Their dedication brings people together across generations.”

Alongside the appreciation ceremony, the gathering featured a seminar led by audiologist Dr. Amir Soltani, who emphasized that hearing loss is often an “invisible disability” that can affect memory, concentration, and social interaction. He encouraged early testing—particularly for adults over 55—and explained how untreated hearing issues can contribute to fatigue, isolation, and even higher risk of accidents.

Dr. Soltani also announced that free hearing screenings and ear-cleaning services will be offered to community members as part of his clinic’s outreach. In addition, he shared plans for a charitable initiative to provide hearing aids to children in need in Iran, linking local service with global solidarity.

The dual focus of the event—celebrating volunteers and promoting hearing health—offered a civic model of community care: valuing service, encouraging dialogue, and addressing shared challenges. Music, poetry, and cultural performances closed the evening, blending art with civic spirit.
