Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council to hold various community events this February

The Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council has scheduled events for the month of February to bring community members together.

The first event of the month is the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's Wild Game Lunch February 11th from 12pm to 4pm. The lunch brings the community together to learn about the NWMO's recent trip with region one and seven council leaders to Finland to learn about the deep geological repository in their community. Leaders will share the knowledge they gained from the trip as the government of Canada is still in talks to place the DGR in MNO region one or seven. With the duty to consult, Metis citizens are encouraged to attend the event to learn and express their thoughts about the DGR potentially being placed in the region.

The second event is the Sash Gifting Ceremony taking place February 13 at 3:30pm at the Royal Victoria Hospital to commemorate the collaboration between the RVH's Indigenous Patient Services and the Barrie South Simcoe Council. Last December the council held a breast cancer awareness event with the RVH's Indigenous Patient Services to learn about the early stages of breast cancer and sign up for mammograms. This sash gifting ceremony not only shows gratitude from the council to the RVH, but will also encourage further partnerships and events.

As always, the Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council will hold their monthly foodbank February 18 and 25. Citizens of the Barrie South Simcoe Council are asked to register in advance by contacting tonymuscat@rogers.ca as spots are limited.
