Justice for Thane Murray: Jabreel Elmi Arrested in 2021 Regent Park Murder, Fourth Suspect Still Wanted

The Regent Park community is one step closer to justice following the arrest of 30-year-old Jabreel Elmi in connection with the 2021 murder of beloved youth mentor and community leader, Thane Murray.

Fred Alvarado – Local Journalism Initiative

Elmi was apprehended by Saskatoon police on January 31, 2025. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for injuries sustained by two other men during the attack. His arrest marks the third in this case, bringing renewed hope for accountability.

Murray, a dedicated City of Toronto employee, was just 27 years old when he was ambushed and fatally shot near Oak and Sumach Streets on September 18, 2021. Over 50 shell casings were recovered from the scene, a chilling reminder of the violence that shook Regent Park that night.

Two suspects, Noah Anderson and Junior Jahmal Harvey, were arrested in December 2021. However, police continue to search for a fourth suspect, 23-year-old Rajahden Angus Campbell, who remains at large with a Canada-wide warrant issued for his arrest. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward and warn that Campbell is considered armed and dangerous.

Though justice is progressing, Thane’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched. Regent Park will never forget his impact and continues to stand together in his memory.
