Meet the Candidates - Brennan Austring (PPC)
For the final push ahead of the 2021 Federal Election, TVC22 brings you one-on-one interview with your local candidates in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.
In this interview, host Thomas Stockting sits down with the People's Party of Canada, candidate Mr. Brennan Austring. The rise in popularity of the PPC has been noted by many during this campaign and, locally, Mr. Austring decided to put his name forward as he hopes, amongst other priorities, to change the way Canada is handling the pandemic.
Lead by Maxime Bernier, the People's Party of Canada are gaining votes from those who have previously voted across the board according to Mr. Austring.
"It's not just people who traditionally vote Conservative that are swaying towards the PPC," he said. "I've had people who normally vote for the Green Party and even the NDP say they are thinking of a change."
When asked about the specific issues facing the different municipalities of the riding, Mr. Austring was honest in that he didn't "know the exact issues" the likes of Clarence-Rockland faced but iis determined to give them the tools they need.
"I believe that municipalities know what's best for themselves and that they should have the authority and flexibility to make those decision them selves," he explained.
Getting to know the communities and finding out what each area needs is the plan "regardless of what happens" as Mr. Austring is looking beyond 2021.
Although some of his party's views are considered controversial, the PPC candidate places having an "open mind" above all else to ensure that they can "reinforce their commitment to helping people."
