Meet the Candidates - Francis Drouin (Liberal Party)

For the final push ahead of the 2021 Federal Election, TVC22 brings you one-on-one interview with your local candidates in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.

In this interview, host Thomas Stockting sits down with Liberal Party candidate and incumbent MP Mr. Francis Drouin. The Liberal member of parliament has represented the riding since the 2015 election and will be hoping to retain his seat for a third consecutive election.

Highlighting his priorities if elected, Mr. Drouin emphasized that infrastructure, rural connectivity, decarbonizing the economy, farmers & francophone language and immigration will be at the top of his list if the voters grant him another term.

The inevitable theme of this election is, understandably, the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the 4th wave Mr. Drouin was asked his position on mandatory vaccines and, although it is a provincial issue, what his position on vaccine passports.

"Proof of vaccination is important," the Hawkesbury native said. "This is not a new phenomenon, it's something that has been in place for countries with viral diseases such as Yellow Fever.

"I understand that there are people tired of wearing masks. I understand that there are people who do not want to get vaccinated and, to those who don't want to get vaccinated all I can say is, if you have legitimate concerns, talk to your doctor.

"We cannot afford another shut down of our economy."

The interview touched on fourth further key themes, from the economic re-launch of our region to climate change and affordability. Watch the full video to hear how Mr. Drouin would tackle issues from availability in day care, affordable housing, rural connectivity as the lack of skilled workers in our region.
