No Legal Recourse for Racial Discrimination in New Brunswick

"The leader of the People's Alliance in New Brunswick, Kris Austin, was asked recently about systemic racism in New Brunswick, and he said he doesn't think it exists," said Dr. Christie. "He followed that by saying that he challenges people to find any piece of legislation in New Brunswick that is inherently racist. I want to say to Mr. Austin: I accept your challenge, and I've written a paper on it that's been published."

The three TV show hosts discuss how Mr. Austin's statement is not only problematic but perpetuates ignorance in the province and the country as a whole.

"If you are blind to a system that discriminates against Black and Indigenous people, your ignorance is adding to the problem," said Martin, who is President of the Black Lives Matter Chapter of New Brunswick.

"If I"m a victim of racial discrimination, I can't call the police, but if any other crime is committed against me, I can call the police and charges can be made. There is no legal recourse for racial discrimination in New Brunswick, and that needs to change," said Dr. Christie.
