Ostap Skrypnyk on the activities of the Congress of Ukrainians in Canada

Сьогодні в студію U Multicultural завітав Остап Скрипник, дорадник манітобської провінційної ради Конгресу українців Канади. 

Батьки Остапа емігрували в Канаду після Другої Світової війни. Не дивлячись на те, що Остап народився і виріс в Канадському суспільстві, чоловік вільно володіє українською мовою, він та його родина дотримується українських традицій, свят, саме це і сформулювало в Остапа глибоку любов до всього українського на відстані більше 7000 кілометрів.

З дитинства він був залучений до українських організацій, а в 1991 році зайняв позицію Виконавчого директору Саскачеванської провінційної ради Конгресу Українців Канади.

У 2009 році Остап переїхав до Вінніпегу, де на той час розташовувався головний офіс Конгресу Українців Канади і зайняв позицію Виконавчого директору Манітобської провінційної ради Конгресу Українців Канади. 

За словами Остапа уся українська діаспора покладала на нього великі надії і разом з цим прийшла велика відповідальність. Остап запровадив різні програми задля того, аби зміцнити українську діаспору та покращити життя своїх співвітчизників.  

“Нові ідеї позитивно вплинули на формування діаспори і вирісла довіра між організацією та людьми. Я втілив багато задумів та планів, аби задовольнити потреби та бажання українців. Це підвищило свідомість нації”,- стверджує Остап. 

Остап розповідає, що для того, аби українська діаспора була такою згуртованою, якою вона є зараз було втілено безліч програм, зокрема вибудовувались міцні стосунки між Україною та Канадою. Тим самим громада в Канаді хотіла допомогти Україні. По-друге, Конгрес Українців Канади став своєрідним містком об’єднання між різними і деколи зовсім протилежними баченнями і думками старої еміграції та нової. 

З 24 лютого, з початку повномасштабного вторгнення Україна отримала багато фінансової, гуманітарної, військової допомоги від Канади і велика частина цієї допомоги отримана завдяки КУК. 

“Канада чи не найкращий друг України. Саме Канада була другою країною світу, яка визнала незалежність України. Канадський уряд також відзначає великий вплив українців на формування політичного, соціального, економічного життя Канади, тому підтримує Україну у цій неспровокованній, кровопролитній війні і надає усю можливу допомогу”,- каже Остап.

Ostap's parents emigrated to Canada after the Second World War. Despite the fact that Ostap was born and grew up in Canadian society, the man is fluent in the Ukrainian language and he and his family observe Ukrainian traditions and holidays. This is how he developed a deep love for everything Ukrainian despite being at a distance of more than 7,000 kilometres.

Since childhood, he was involved in Ukrainian organizations, and in 1991 he took the position of Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

In 2009, Ostap moved to Winnipeg, where at that time the head office of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress was located, and he took the position of Executive Director of the Manitoba Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

According to Ostap, the entire Ukrainian diaspora had high hopes for him, and along with that he had a great responsibility. Ostap introduced various programs in order to strengthen the Ukrainian diaspora and improve the lives of his compatriots.

"New ideas had a positive impact on the formation of the diaspora and increased trust between the organization and people. I implemented many ideas and plans to satisfy the needs and wishes of Ukrainians. This raised the nation's consciousness," Ostap claims.

Ostap says that in order for the Ukrainian diaspora to be as united as it is now, many programs were implemented, in particular, strong relations between Ukraine and Canada were built. Thus, the community in Canada wanted to help Ukraine. Secondly, the Congress of Ukrainians of Canada became a kind of bridge of unification between different and sometimes completely opposite visions and opinions of the old emigres and the new ones.

Since February 24, 2022, the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received a lot of financial, humanitarian, and military aid from Canada, and a large part of this aid has been received thanks to the work of the UCC.

"Canada is Ukraine's best friend. Canada was the second country in the world that recognized the independence of Ukraine. The Canadian government also has noted the great influence of Ukrainians in the formation of the political, social, and economic life of Canada, therefore it supports Ukraine in this unprovoked, bloody war and provides all possible assistance," says Ostap.
