Wilfred Langmaid Brings Mariners Music Fest to St. George
In a world still longing for the return of live music performances and community gatherings, Wilfred Langmaid, co-founder of the Mariners Music Festival and Mariners Alumni Association, have taken the initiative to create a legacy event that promises to bring joy, nostalgia, and a sense of togetherness to attendees. The festival, organized by Langmaid, is set to take place in August in St. George and is both a music fest and a high school reunion for all graduates of Fundy High School.
The Mariners Alumni Association, formed last year, serves as the driving force behind the music festival. According to Langmaid, the association was created to provide a platform for organizing events like the Mariners Music Fest. Last year's successful one-day event paved the way for this year's expanded festival scheduled for August 12th weekend. Langmaid and his team have planned a weekend full of events leading up to the festival. The festivities kick off on Thursday night in conjunction with the St. George Concert Series.
On Saturday, the festival takes center stage, running from noon until 11 p.m. Attendees can expect a diverse lineup of performers concluding with a performance by the renowned five-piece band, Full Circle.
While the Mariners Music Fest offers a weekend of entertainment, it also serves a greater purpose. The festival helps raise funds for scholarships and community initiatives. Last year, the Mariners Alumni Association awarded its first bursary, and this year they plan to continue supporting local students through scholarships
Additionally, the association has partnered with a local golf tournament to provide new volleyball nets and poles, benefiting students for years to come.
With a vision to create a weekend-long event, Langmaid plans to expand the festival in the future. The festival currently coincides with the Thursday night town concert series, but Langmaid hopes to incorporate a Friday night family event and a Sunday sports event in the coming years. He envisions a time when a new generation will take over the organization of the festival, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the table.
