Winnipeg Communities Received Considerable Help From Bear Clan Patrol
The Bear Clan Patrol community organization hosted an Open House for the community to celebrate Christmas and their work helping people in need in Winnipeg.
As explained on their website: "The concept behind the Bear Clan Patrol is community people working with the community to provide personal security in the inner city in a non-threatening, non-violent, non-judgmental, and supportive way."
In their role to prevent crime in the city, this Indigenous-led organization patrols streets, provides food for hundreds of people daily, and also clothing, some of which is handmade by some of its many volunteers. The organization also provides programs to those who need physical and psychological support. They do not restrict their help to those of Indigenous background. Equity for all is an essential ideal of the group.
Civic journalist, Zuher Almusre, interviewed a number of people at this celebration, including Linda Campbell, President of the Bear Clan Patrol and also several volunteers who are involved in some of the many volunteer jobs. One person interviewed is very involved in having warm mittens made from recycled leather and fur.
The many people, who attended, enjoyed a lovely event at their main offices. Santa Claus was there for the children, and he sang heartily with the children. The young ones were treated to lots of candies and were given goody bags to bring home. There were smokies being barbecued in the snowy backyard and hot chocolate to savour and to provide warmth for all.
