Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong - Ep. 7
Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong is a talk show brought to you by Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territories' Kerry Assiniwe and FirstTelTC5 (Local Journalism Initiative). It is a bi-weekly show, hosted by Kerry Assiniwe, where we will talk about different issues and stories concerning the Wiikwemkoong community. This is a new venture of connecting with community members, whether living in Wiikwemkoong or elsewhere. This show is a 'community voice' and we will be looking for show ideas to highlight the lives of Wiikwemkoong community members, events, culture, issues/concerns etc.
In this seventh episode of Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong, we talk to Sioux Manitowabi. Sioux is the community energy planner for Wiikwemkoong, and discusses the community's wood pellet biomass program. Tune in as we get a tour of the facilities, and get a demonstration on how pellets are delivered to a home.
LJI Cactus editor's note: This is the final program produced by Kyle Corston under the Local Journalism Initiative program. Look for other programs produced by Kyle on commediaportal.ca. Thanks to Kyle for his service to both the Wiikwemkoong community and for his participation in the Local Journalism Initiative.
The Wiikwemkoong First Nation is located on Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario. The reserve is occupied by Ojibwa, Odawa and Potawatomi Nations under the Council of Three Fires. Wiikwemkoong occupies a large peninsula on the eastern end of Manitoulin Island, which is connected to the rest of the island by an isthmus separating South Bay from Manitowaning Bay. (Wikipedia).
