PODCAST-Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong - Ep.5
Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong is a talk show brought to you by Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territories' Kerry Assiniwe and FirstTelTV5 (Local Journalism Initiative). It is a bi-weekly show, hosted by Kerry Assiniwe, where we will talk about different issues and stories concerning the Wiikwemkoong community. This is a new venture of connecting with community members, whether living in Wiikwemkoong or elsewhere. This show is a ‘community voice’, and we will be looking for show ideas to highlight the ‘life/lives’ of Wiikwemkoong community members, events, culture, issues/concerns etc.
In this fifth episode of Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong, we talk to Diane Jacko, the manager at Nadmadwin Mental Health Clinic in Wiikwemkoong, and Peter VanVolkingburgh, coordinator of the Mnidoo Mnising Crisis Response Team. As well as describing their roles and responsibilities, our guests speak to us about "crisis"; explaining exactly what a crisis is, and how to deal with situations like this as we discuss mental health and safety initiatives offered through Nadmadwin Mental Health Clinic and Mnidoo Mnising Mental Wellness Crisis Response Team. As we enter the month of February, and nearly a year now of COVID lockdown measures, we acknowledge that the past year has been hard on everyone's mental health. It is important to know what resources are out there for people who may need the extra help and would like someone to talk to, and to know that there are always people out there who are willing to listen and help. We're all in this together!
