The future of the Milltown dam
At an event hosted on Saturday, February 29, 2020, Hon. Mike Holland spoke to dozens of concerned locals from the St. Croix riding and also responded to their questions on everything from the upcoming turkey hunt and the use of glyphosate in the New Brunswick forestry industry to the future of the historic Milltown dam. Holland insisted that the Milltown dam's fate will not be decided without proper consultation from the community. The dates of public consultations regarding the dam have still yet to be decided.
In municipal politics, the Town of Saint Andrews was the proud recipient of the New Brunswick Age-Friendly Recognition Award at town council on Monday, March 2, 2020. The award is given to communities that meet criteria established by the World Health Organization that encourage local seniors to thrive by leading healthy, active and engaged lives. After the event, Hogarth spoke to Carolyn Davies, Sandy Morgan and Leslie Leblanc, members of the Age-Friendly Steering Committee who worked tirelessly over the past few years to ensure Saint Andrews met the qualifications of an Age-Friendly Community. Saint Andrews is just one of 10 communities in New Brunswick to receive the Age-Friendly Designation, an honour that comes with many benefits, one of which, Davies explained, is being eligible for more grants from the federal and provincial governments.
