The School District 74 Policy Review Meeting was attended by: Nancy Rempel, Valerie Adrian, Donna Aljam, Larry Casper, Carmen Ranta, Orra Storkan and Vicky Trill. The meeting took place at the Desert Sands Community School in Ashcroft BC.

After agreeing to the agenda and approving of the minutes from the previous meeting, the policy review meeting kicked off with a rousing discussion and review of policy 1.10 Trustee Code of Ethics, Policy 1.100 Trustee Code of Conduct, and Policy 1.150 Role of the Trustee.

In September, Policy Committee reviewed the draft "Trustee Policies". It was requested District Management compile the changes and identify where items are addressed in current policies or other resources. The Policy Committee will discuss if new policies need to be created. Topics for review consisted of confidential information, conflict of interest, communication, trustee orientation and trustee concerns.

Other policies that were ratified included the trustee oath of office. A few of the changed points included: 

1. Hold a high standard of ethics, conducts and loyalty as I devote my best efforts, skills and resources in the interest of the School District No. 74. The Board, communities and individuals the district is established to service. 

2.3. Perform duties as a Trustee with honesty and good faith that the public’s confidence and trust in the integrity and objectivity of the Board of Education are conserved and enhanced.

3.4. Take individual responsibility to contribute actively to all aspects of the Boards’ role according to legislation, bylaws and policy.

4.5. Respect the right of each member to contribute their position or opinion to Board discussion and deliberations.

5.6. Recognize and share my point of view on Board discussions and while working as a team, to conclude and adopt a fair and positive outcome that supports the School Act.

There were also some actual board policies that were changed as well, such as: Policy 1.40 Trustee Remuneration In accordance with the Board's Work Plan, Policy 1.40 Trustee Remuneration is to be reviewed by October 31st of each year. Policy 1.40 Trustee Remuneration was reviewed by Policy Committee in April 2020 and will be brought forward for the annual review in February 2021.

Policy 2.120 Investments Policy Committee will review Policy 2.120 Investments in accordance with Policy 1.60 Policy Development, Adoption, Review and Deletion.

(And) Policy 7.10 Code of Conduct - General Policy Committee will review Policy 7.10 Code of Conduct - General in accordance with Policy 1.60 Policy Development, Adoption, Review and Deletion.
