ACN8: Budgets, Floods and COVID19
The Village of Cache Creek issued a new evacuation alert for residential and commercial properties along the Bonaparte River. There is a rainfall warning and levels could rise very quickly, for more information contact Wendy Coomber. Wendy is the head of the Emergency Operations Center in Cache Creek. Bank erosion is still a major concern, so please keep yourself and your pets at least 10 feet back from the banks at all times for your safety. The Cache Creek Park is still heavily flooded, and a tree has fallen behind the Sandman Hotel, taking out more of the river bank around that area.
Our most up to date COVID numbers include 23 new cases and 4 new deaths over the last couple of days. Remember to keep your physical distance intact and stay safe out there.
From School District 74 -- John Horgan and Bonnie Henry have passed along a outline of what back to school is going to look like. The schedule is broken up , and no one will be going back full time. It does state that most of the students will be returning two half days a week. Keep in mind that this return to school is voluntary, and everyone that was eligible to pass will.
There is a new app that has come out of the Federal Government to help Canadians find which COVID-19 related benefits apply specifically to them. For example students, small business owners, seniors etc. This app has drawn some heat from the Conservative party -- currently the Liberal Government is trying to keep the number of representatives to a minimum, with the opposition wanting more people involved with the debate process, this app is on the oppositions list of things to talk about in Parliament.
COVID-19 brings about the biggest retail drop in March 2020, a significant drop of 40% across retailers has taken place.
There is another App set to come out soon. It is the COVID tracking app, which has also seen lots of opposition, mainly for personal privacy reasons. The creators of the app has expressed that the app is completely private, and no personal information will be given out at all.
From MLA Jackie Tegart; British Colombians will have the options of first dibs for summer camping in BC, and people from Alberta are being asked to cancel theor reservations.
On a positive note, the HUB says that they are looking forward to a June 1st re-opening. In compliance with BC guidelines the HUB has to do several new cleaning measures, and looks forward to having having everyone come back this summer.
The Hospital thrift store in Ashcroft is also looking at their re-opening plan. They will be having fewer people allowed in the store at one time, lots more cleaning measures, and reduced hours. They are hoping to have people allowed back in starting in early summer.
