Ashcroft Council Meeting March 9 2020

     The Village of Ashcroft Council Meeting was attended by: Mayor Barbara Roden Councillor Marilyn Anderson Councillor Nadine Davenport Councillor Debra Tuohey Yoginder Bhalla, Chief Financial Officer Brian Bennewith, Public Works Foreman with 12 citizens in the gallery and excused members: Councillor Jonah Anstett Daniela Dyck, Deputy Corporate Officer. The meeting started at 4:30pm March 9th 2020, and was recorded by the HUB Online Network.

     After the call to order, the council adopted the agenda, and the previous minutes from the, Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council held Monday February 24, 2020 and the Minutes of the Committee of the Whole Meeting held on Monday February 24, 2020. With no delegations the council moved onto items for action which included:

  • Ashcroft & District Lions Club – Request for Route Approval for 10th Annual Skip’s Memorial Charity Run.( “That Council approve the Route as requested by the Ashcroft & District Lions Club to host the 10th Annual Skip’s Memorial Run.”) – Carried Unanimously
  • Legion – Military Service Recognition Book – Advertising Request (“That Council approve the purchase of a Business Card advertisement supporting the Military Service Recognition Book for $275.”)
  • Carried Unanimously - Buy Local Buy Fresh – Advertising Request (“That Council approve the advertising request in the Buy Local Buy Fresh publication for $600.”) – Carried Unanimously.
  • Ashcroft & District Lions Club – Facility use Approval of Pool Park for Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast (“That Council approve the Ashcroft & District Lions Club request to use the Pool Park as the venue for the Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast, and that the food trailer be set up in the parking lot.”)
  • Carried Unanimously. There were 3 items to be received and filed, such as:
  • Monte Downs – Off Leash Dog Park – Rescind Project Participation.
  • WHAC – Final Report, now that WHAC is no long a group, this letter outlined how WHAC ended.
  • There was then some unfinished business from the previous meeting:
  • SOGIA – Request for Grant in Aid and Repaint the Rainbow Crosswalk (“THAT Council approve the SOGIA Grant in Aid request in the amount of $250, and further that Council approve the repainting of the Rainbow Crosswalk on Railway Ave. as a collaboration with the SOGIA students working under the direction of the Village Pubic Works Department, and further that all expenses be paid by the village.) – Carried with opposition by Councillor Anderson.
  • There was then a decision made about the villages Economic Development and Tourism Strategy and the NDIT Economic Development Capacity Grant Application, which were both Carried Unanimously. There were no council reports and only one question from the public.

     The meeting lasted for 18 minutes and ended at 4:48pm.
