COVID, Call ins and Personal Protection Equipment

On April 3rd 2020,  here is what is making news in Ashcroft, Cache Creek and beyond.

The global COVID-19 numbers yesterday were:

In contrast today we have: Total Cases 1,097,862 58,875; Serious Cases 35,420; Recovered 221,756. Locally we have 53 new 1174 4 death 35 total which gives the interior 5 new cases.

As a reminder, there was a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Cache Creek. The infected was an individual was an employee, so if you were in the Subway on March 24,25 or 26, you are being asked to self isolate.

Our local schools will be contacting you to pick up your child’s belongings from the school (personal items left in the lockers).

Frontline workers should get a bonus during the pandemic, says the NDP. The frontline workers are working and getting paid the same, yet most people are at home getting a wage benefit and in some cases the benefits pay more than what frontline workers are making.

From Justin Trudeau’s speech: 3M was asked by President Donald Trump to suspend all 3M masks to other countries. The Prime Minister has stated that masks and other Personal Protection Equipment was indeed on its way through Amazon Canada, however NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has spoken up with disapproval of hiring Amazon as the supplier of choice.

Raven Nyman called in during the show and gave us an update on what is happening in 100 Mile and Clinton. Some of these updates include, the local birthday parade, what 100 Mile House is doing with community assets during COVID including shutting down the local gym and the town office.  Raven is a journalist based out of 100 mile with Black Press Media.

We then get a phone call from local Ashcroft resident David Durksen. David walks us through what our local doctors office and emergency room is doing and what has changed procedure wise. We also have a new doctor that is looking for patients, and although you may not be allowed to physically go into the clinic, but you would can still have all of your appointments over the phone.

Jessica from HUBOnline shares a video about what businesses are open and closed in Ashcroft during COVID19.

BC Ferries laid off more than 1400 employees and cancelled a major route leaving from Departure Bay. They say this is due to an 80% drop in revenue.

Reminder that Mayor Talarico and CAO Dalsin will be available to answer your question from 11-noon everyday next week. Host Gareth Smart spoke with CAO Dalsin regarding by-law enforcement in Cache Creek during COVID since Cache Creek doesn’t have by-law officers anyway. Dalsin's response was that if there is a big enough issue, call the cops.

There is so much more, come back on Monday and see what else is happening in our area. Thank you for watching.
