Ventilators, Hotlines and COVID-19

On April 7th the Global numbers for COVID19 are: Total cases, 427,732 total deaths 81,896 people recovered 303,450. In BC we have 25 new cases which gives us a total of 1291 overall cases, with 4 new deaths, but 809 people have recovered.

Justin Trudeau says that new companies are stepping up to make gowns, masks, and ventilators. With an over abundance on the ventilator side. He has gotten some flack for this, but in his response he says that if we have to many we can give them to countries that might need them more than we do.

The CERB is going under some changes to include self employed people as well as gig workers. Also, the CERB is a taxable amount, but no tax comes off the payment right away, so in the 2021 tax season you will have to pay some of this money back via taxes. Also if you are someone that has applied for and have received the CERB but don’t actually need it, you will be in trouble and will possibly face fines and prison time.

Local badminton has been cancelled for the season and will possibly resume in September. IDA Pharmacy will be closed for Good Friday but will be open on good Monday.

Christy Barrie from the Ashcroft WorkBC offices called in, she says “just because our doors are closed doesn’t mean we aren’t around to take your calls or provide access to the local job board…” Christy is the manager in the office.

The upcoming Cache Creek Village meeting for April 14 2020 is cancelled due to COVID-19 and the current physical distancing restrictions. But Mayor Talarico and CAO Dalsin will be available to answer your phone calls all week from 11 to noon.

The Ashcroft Cache Creek Hotline has been created by local community leaders and organizations including: The HUB Online Network, The Ashcroft HUB, The Equality Project, St. Alban’s Anglican Church, The Village of Ashcroft, The Village of Cache Creek, MLA Jackie Tegart, MP Brad Vis, Elizabeth Fry Society, Sage Hills Church, Second Time Around Thrift Store and Ashcroft District Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store.

The Equality Project is open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but they are looking for donations of non-perishable food and fresh food for hot meals to be handed out. They have created physical distancing rules which includes only having two people in the kitchen making the food, and only two people handling the food out. Elizabeth Fry Society which runs the food bank is also looking for non-perishable donations. St. Alban’s Anglican Church is still doing Soup’s On. This takes place Fridays mid morning, but instead of handing out food, they are handing out vouchers to local restaurants including The Central Café and Sam’s Diner.

Thanks for watching come back tomorrow at 4pm.
