The Flood Continues

April 20th, 2020  - From Saturday to Sunday 29 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed and from Sunday to today 23 new cases were confirmed. Five new deaths were reported in the last two days bringing British Columbia's total deaths to 86. Currently, 104 people are in hospitals with 49 of them being in the ICU. in BC 1139 people have recovered.

Doctor Bonnie Henry has announced that no public sporting or cultural events will be permitted to continue this summer. As a result, the local Desert Daze festival that normally takes place in the summer has been canceled. A “new collaborative framework” will help ensure people in rural, remote, and indigenous communities have access to the healthcare they require in this crisis.

Residents of interior BC have been issued flood warnings. According to a report issued at 9 am on Monday, April 20th the Nasco and westward river areas are now subject to flood warnings with experts saying that rivers are running at up to a 20-year flow rate. Local experts say that the Bonaparte river that runs through cache creek is running at a 2-5 year rate. The village of Cache Creek has issued an evacuation alert to warn citizens that they may be asked to evacuate in the near future. The notice asks that citizens arrange meeting areas for the family if the evacuation order is given while you are separated. Please pack essential items such as government identification, medication, eyeglasses, valuable papers such as insurance, immediate care supplies for dependents, and if time and space permits, keepsakes. Please prepare to move disabled persons, children, or neighbors if assistance is needed. Prepare to take pets or livestock with you to a safe area and arrange transportation for all household members. If you are on the water line living in the cache creek trailer park it is recommended that you begin sandbagging as soon as possible. Monitor www.cachecreek.ca for more information.

Lastly, a helpline has been set up for Cache Creek and Ashcroft residents. The number is 250-457-3422, they are ready and willing to help Cache Creek and Ashcroft citizens with things such as groceries, picking up mail, spiritual support, or even just to talk with someone if you are lonely.
