Potlotek First Nation Gears Up For Busy Summer
EVANSTON - Richmond Municipal Council and Richmond MLA Trevor Boudreau are weighing in on physician-recruitment efforts for the area, in the wake of staff shortages at the Strait-Richmond Hospital that could see the Evanston facility's emergency room shut down with only a few minutes' notice if staff can't keep up with patient capacity.
Speaking after a presentation on the new ER model by three representatives from the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) at this week's regular council meeting, Warden Amanda Mombourquette said she was relieved to hear that the NSHA has no plans to close the hospital but still concerned about shortages in doctors and nurses for the 42-year-old facility.
For his part, Boudreau is optimistic that recent physician-recruitment figures unveiled by Health Minister and PC caucus colleague Michelle Thompson last week will bolster the efforts needed to fill the vacancies at the Strait-Richmond while addressing Richmond County's overall health care needs.
