Cape Breton Partnership Pleased With Reception at European Wind Conference

ARICHAT - The man assigned by the Cape Breton Partnership (CBP) to promote business and development interests in Richmond County and Port Hawkesbury feels the two municipalities benefitted significantly from attending a major renewable energy conference in the Danish capital of Copenhagen this spring.

Martin Thomsen has served as the partnership's Innovations and Economic Development Officer for Richmond County and Port Hawkesbury since February. The early days of his tenure in this position saw him travel with the chairs of the Strait Area Offshore Wind Task Force - Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton and Richmond Warden Amanda Mombourquette - to participate in WindEurope 2023, which took place during the last week of April.

Noting that the Strait Area delegation was asked to attend WindEurope 2023 by the provincial government, Thomsen recalled a collegial reception from Nova Scotia officials in Copenhagen as well as a great interest in the potential for green hydrogen development in the county and the town.

"It was a hectic week - we were going from early-morning to late at night with meetings," Thomsen told TELILE 24/7 host during an interview at the Arichat studios of Telile Community Television.

"Brenda and Amanda are really pushing for this, and so am I, so I think we made a really great impression over there...We were armed to the teeth with information."

Also on this week's TELILE 24/7:

21:18 - Port Hawkesbury Chief Administrative Officer Terry Doyle explains town council's decision to send a letter to the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works to request the presentation of a long-delayed final report on the four-year-old Destination Reeves Street pilot project for Port Hawkesbury's main thoroughfare.

25:18 - With National Hospital Palliative Care week running from May 7-13, Tell 24/7 has a panel discussion on the issue with three members of the Strait-Richmond Palliative Care Society about the program's past and present in Richmond County and the need for municipal and provincial governments to keep supporting the program in the future.

48:54 - Port Hawkesbury Town Councillor Jason Aucoin is hoping to secure more information from his fellow town councillors to help present the town's position within current discussions on sharing a bylaw enforcement officer with the town of Mulgrave and the counties of Inverness and Richmond.

50:01 - Port Hawkesbury Volunteer Fire Chief Donald MacDonald updates his department's activities over the past year during the latest regular monthly meeting of Port Hawkesbury Town Council on May 2.
