Dixon Hall’s annual fundraiser Dixonlicious the highly anticipated annual event, recently took place in the vibrant community of Regent Park, leaving a trail of gastronomic delight and philanthropy in its wake. Dixonlicious took place at Daniel’s Spectrum 585 Dundas St E on Tuesday, June 6th, from 6 to 9PM for an evening of fabulous food and drinks supporting vital food programs. Dixon Hall’s goal this year was to raise enough to cover 30,000 meals to those in need across Toronto.

The event featured food and beverage stations from restaurants in Regent Park and surrounding neighbourhoods of downtown east Toronto in support of Dixon Hall's food programs. Over 400 people enjoyed fine food and drinks. It was great opportunity to mingle with community stakeholders, politicians and other dignitaries.

Dixon Hall which began as a soup kitchen in 1929 and has steadily grown to offering a diverse range of integrated services for residents of east downtown Toronto. With the rising cost of living, many Downtown East neighbours struggle with food insecurity, which is why Dixonlicious is an important event to Regent Park community. All proceeds will go towards Meals on Wheels for house-bound seniors, breakfasts, and snacks for children at Dixon Hall’s summer camps, and nutritious meals for men and women who are under-housed.

Some of the key speakers included:
Mina Mawani is a prominent figure in the field of social services and community development in Canada. She has dedicated her career to advocating for affordable housing and improving the lives of marginalized populations

Egbo Thompson, who was the Master of Ceremonies, was born in Nigeria has developed an impressive musical career in Jazz.

Brenda Rogers, Food Access Peer Worker, describes herself as, “I like working with people and being part of the community. I like being creative, love cooking and listening to people that need an ear. I am understanding and always willing to learn. I cook and hand out food for tenants that need a meal, I work at Dixon Hall food bank.”

Cameron Scrivens, Board Chair, Dixon Hall, comes from a background in the investment industry.

Jordana Greenberg, Chair, Fundraising Committee, also has a career in business.

Dixonlicious was sponsored by the P. Austin Family Foundation; TD Bank; BellMedia, and Daniels on Parliament South Tower plus support from many other businesses and individuals who have confidence in Dixon Hall’s commitment to meet the challenge of food insecurity.

The event not only showcased the remarkable culinary talents of renowned chefs but also provided a platform for influential speakers to address pressing social and environmental issues. Most importantly, Dixonlicious 2023 raised significant funds to support community programs and initiatives in Regent Park, fostering a brighter future for its residents. This remarkable event serves as a testament to the power of food, bringing people together to create positive change in society.
