In celebration of Black History Month, Community Update presents an exclusive interview with Julien Matwawana, the Executive Director of the African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA). Matwawana shares insights into the origins of ANSMA, which emerged from a collective desire among community members to address the lack of representation and opportunities for African Nova Scotian artists in mainstream music circles. As Halifax prepares to host the Juno Awards, ANSMA is actively involved in highlighting the rich cultural heritage of African Nova Scotians within the music industry.
