Local Neepawa Co-operative Celebrates Anniversary with Sponsored Shopping Spree for Food Banks
The top story in this week’s News & Views is a series of three shopping sprees sponsored by Neepawa-Gladstone Co-op to help celebrate the business’ 95th Anniversary year.
With food security being a huge issue across the country, on January 28, the Neepawa Food Bank and Gladstone Food Cupboard were each invited to participate in a 95-second shopping spree in their respective local food stores to help restock their shelves for local residents in need. As well, a third participant was drawn randomly from Co-op’s team members to also enjoy a 95-second shopping spree.
Recipient for the Neepawa Food Bank, Amanda Naughton-Gale, says that the Co-op has supported them in other ways as well, including a food reclamation project. As far as the actual experience of the shopping spree, Naughton-Gale says that the time flew by, and that every little bit she managed to get into her carts helps the community.
“We know that food insecurity is something that is happening to a lot of families in our communities right now, and we do think that it’s our responsibility to help the food banks keep their shelves stocked,” says Ally Potrebka, Marketing and Member Relations Coordinator for Neepawa-Gladstone Co-op.
Potrebka adds that additional 95-second shopping sprees for Co-op members - as well as other events to celebrate the co-operative’s 95th anniversary - will be taking place throughout the year.
