Empowering Our Seniors through Financial Literacy on Taxes and End of Life Planning
On February 5, 2024, Joy Bauman, a funeral pre-planning specialist with the help of a financial expert, gave a presentation about Death and Taxes to provide information and strategies on how to help families on the time of death and to protect assets so we can transfer them as safely, quickly and with as little tax as possible from one generation to another. It also aims to encourage people to review and update their plans when needed.
Bauman explained the importance of an organized estate for yourself and your family. “I was figuring it out, if my husband and I put a $100 a month into our savings account, in October or now it would be October, we would have a $1,000 saved. Now for some reason, that seems to be an impossibility when you get to our age cause everything costs a lot of money and I find that costs are increasing and the ability to save is less. So when we’re talking about estate planning, it might not be that we are passing along hundreds of thousands of dollars but rather we are saving thousands of dollars so that our family has an organized easy state to follow and that that money will go to them rather than to lawyers and accountants and real estate agents or whoever the case may be as you go and that’s what we are trying to do. We are not trying to cut them out cause you need them, they are very important but we are trying to make sure that we don’t give them more than what we need to for our and their survival.”, said Bauman.
The session also included a question and answer portion where attendees were able to clarify some of their concerns about policies on savings, taxes and beneficiaries.
