North Cypress-Langford Council: Safety is the Business of the Day

Council heard from three delegations at this month’s meeting including Resurrection Life Ministries, which expressed an interest in developing a long-term project including a bible college and food and beverage manufacturing facility, and Brandon Computers which brought updates about the town’s cybersecurity upgrades.

The third was from ConxGPS, which presented to the Council a potential GPS tracking system for graders and mowers. The system is intended to benefit equipment operators, Council, and municipal residents with safety features for the operators, digital mapping of routes, progress and obstacles for the Council, and up-to-date information for residents on snow-clearing and road-grading operations. The company is based in Saskatoon with existing operations across the Prairies including Glenboro, just to the south of North Cypress-Langford.

The public works department instituted a new monthly safety meeting for all members which will include regular review and revision of their safe work procedures. They have also requested a transition to an online SDS (Safe Data Sheet) inventory for ease of access and speed during emergencies.

The Health Action Committee continues to fight red tape regarding getting a new doctor in the community and is now working with the province and the RHA to help streamline the process. They have had internationally-trained physicians show interest in coming to the community but have been unable as yet to complete all the requirements.

Other business this month included regular financial reports and correspondence, equipment purchases, staff training, the hiring of a new finance officer, and planning matters which included advance notice of a tricky subdivision that will likely be coming before Council soon.
