Opportunities Available for Local Job Seekers at the Neepawa Job Fair
The 3rd Annual Neepawa Job Fair was held on April 25, 2024, at the Neepawa Legion, organized by the Town of Neepawa led by Marilyn Crewe, Economic Development Officer, in partnership with West Lake Employment Services and the Neepawa Settlement. “We have 20 booths this year! Not all are employers. Some of them are from Post Secondary Education and Apprenticeship. But it’s all part of the same opportunity that we are offering to people who are looking to improve themselves.” said Crewe.
The available jobs during the Job Fair were mostly entry-level positions, administration, construction, truck drivers, health care aides and others. With the upcoming developments in the Town of Neepawa and the construction of the new hospital, some construction jobs are in demand jobs in Neepawa as of the moment.
Bird Construction, the company constructing the new additional hospital in Neepawa, was part of the Job Fair represented by Rick Pelletier, Operations Manager in Winnipeg, and Ike Rowin Torno, their Project Coordinator here in Neepawa. “I’m a local here in Neepawa. Actually, I just got this job from a Job Fair last year. Everything’s so surreal. I once stood at the other end of the table, submitted my resume and here I am. I’ve been working for a year now with Bird. Everything’s going good so far. Projects have been good so far.” said Torno.
Assiniboine Community College (ACC), represented by Trevor Drysart, Student Recruitment in Brandon, was there to provide information about the available Diploma Courses for people who would like to upgrade their skills and get some courses to work in their field of interest. One program they offer is Early Childhood Education, where classes will be held in Neepawa next year.
