Clearwater Seafoods Sells Isle Madame Lobster Facility

Clearwater Seafoods has sold its live lobster holding facility in Cap Auguet, Isle Madame, to I. Deveau Fisheries. While some employees are returning to work based on seniority, exact numbers have not been confirmed. About 83 workers were temporarily laid off during the sale negotiations earlier this year.

The facility, capable of holding 1.8 million pounds of lobster in a natural habitat simulation, will continue operations under new ownership. Clearwater emphasized the sale preserves local jobs and maintains the facility’s legacy. I. Deveau Fisheries, a family business since 1981, plans to expand its operations despite challenges such as tariffs.

The centre will complement an existing facility in Halifax and two mobile training units, with oversight provided by an industry steering committee.
