Mojgan Towhid and the Civic Power of Connection: Leading with Heart for Our Seniors
On Face to Face, Genevieve Kyle Lefebvre had the pleasure of sitting down with Mojgan Towhid, founder and past president of the Iranian Seniors Club, and a recent recipient of the King Charles III Medal. Her calm strength and deep sense of service have shaped a legacy rooted in dignity, civic responsibility, and cross-generational connection.
Towhid’s journey began with a simple desire to give back. When she founded the Iranian Seniors Club, she envisioned more than just a social gathering place. She created a vital platform for inclusion, belonging, and civic engagement. Under her guidance, the club grew into a respected voice for seniors in the Tri-Cities, offering both cultural grounding and opportunities for public participation.
The club has become a cornerstone for Iranian seniors, promoting active citizenship, health, and intercultural dialogue. From voter education sessions to neighborhood outreach, it helps elders remain visible, valued, and engaged. Towhid reflects with pride on initiatives that have reduced isolation, fostered multilingual connections, and created space for shared learning between generations.
One recent initiative brought seniors and youth together through storytelling, where immigrant experiences were shared with the broader community. “It was emotional,” she says. “But it built real bridges.” That sense of connection remains a defining theme in her work.
Now having stepped away from her leadership role, Towhid remains a strong advocate for inclusion and civic participation. She encourages younger residents to get involved and support the mission. “Seniors carry the stories, the strength, and the spirit of resilience that bind communities together,” she says.
Through her founding leadership, the Iranian Seniors Club has become far more than a gathering place. It stands as a civic force built on compassion, advocacy, and the belief that everyone, at every age, has something vital to contribute
